About

Practice that reads what you wrote

LingoCrest is independent preparation for the Duolingo English Test, built because the parts of that test which carry the most weight are the parts most practice apps quietly skip.

The problem it was built for

Multiple choice is cheap to mark, so multiple choice is what most preparation offers. But a large share of a DET result comes from writing and speaking, and those cannot be marked by comparing a letter against a key. They have to be read.

So that is what this does. Every written and spoken answer comes back with the specific errors quoted from your own words, a correction, the reason, and a rewrite that stays at your level rather than showing off. A model answer you could not have produced teaches nothing.

What is in it

All 13 DET question types and 489 questions, timed the way the real test times them — five seconds to judge a word, ninety seconds to speak, one minute to describe a photograph. The clock is part of the skill, so it is part of the practice.

Where the questions come from

Every question is original material written for this project. It is modelled on the public format of each task type, not copied from any provider's question bank — because a question bank scraped from a real test is both a legal problem and a worse product, since it teaches the answers rather than the skill.

The learner names in the leaderboard are invented. The photographs are licensed stock, credited in the repository.

What it cannot tell you

It cannot tell you your DET score. Nothing can except the DET. The number this app shows is an estimate on the same 10–160 scale, useful for watching your own progress and useless as a prediction. Treat a rising score as evidence you are improving, not as a result.

It is also not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to Duolingo in any way. If you want the real thing, it is at englishtest.duolingo.com.

Who made it

LingoCrest is built and run from Pakistan by a small team, for candidates sitting the test from anywhere. If something is wrong, unclear, or simply annoying, the contact page reaches a person.
